Privacy Guidelines

The Sacramento County Employees’ Retirement System (SCERS) takes your privacy seriously. These Privacy Guidelines promote principles of disclosure and informed consent while visiting our website at scers.gov, related SCERS websites or affiliated mobile applications (collectively, our “Site”).  Your use of our Site is governed by these Privacy Guidelines and conditioned upon your acceptance of its Terms and Conditions of Use.

SCERS reserves the right to change these guidelines and the corresponding information on this page at any time without prior notice. Personal information may be required by law or in order to provide a requested service.

Information Collection

  • We do not collect personal information about you when you visit our Site unless you choose to provide that information to us.
  • We collect limited non-personally identifying information your browser makes available automatically whenever you visit our Site. This information may include the Internet address of your computer or network, the date, time, and page you visited on our site, your browser and operating system, and the referring page (the last webpage you visited before clicking on a link to our Site).
  • We use the aggregated information from all visitors to our Site to measure server performance, analyze user traffic patterns and improve content.
  • Some of our online services require you to register for an account. We ask you for some personal information in order to create an account (for example, your name, email address and a password for your account) and we will use that information to provide the service.
  • On certain occasions, the public has opportunities to share personal information online with SCERS in order to facilitate better correspondence and service. This information includes but is not limited to e-mail addresses, responses to surveys, registering for services and new services to be created. SCERS will not disclose your personal information or use it for purposes other than those specified, without your permission, except as authorized or required by law.

Cookies

A cookie is a piece of text stored on a user’s computer by their web browser. Cookies can be used for various reasons, including authentication purposes and storing site preferences. SCERS does not use cookies to collect information about users of its Site for any purpose.

Site Security

SCERS uses hardware devices and software programs for the purpose of monitoring network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or otherwise cause damage. Anyone using our Site expressly consents to such monitoring. Except for authorized law enforcement investigations and the security purposes mentioned elsewhere in this notice, no other attempts are made to identify individual users or their usage habits.

Unauthorized attempts to modify any information stored on this system, to defeat or circumvent security features, or to utilize this system for other than its intended purposes are prohibited and may result in criminal prosecution.

When we ask a SCERS member to enter sensitive information (such as name, email address, Social Security number, or password), that information is encrypted and protected.

Links to Other Websites

As a convenience for users, our Site may contain links to other websites created and maintained by other public and private entities. SCERS is not responsible for the material found on any linked website or for the privacy practices of such other websites. We encourage you to read the privacy statements of linked websites, as their privacy policies may differ from ours.

Email

Email is not a secure platform. Information passed through email can be intercepted by third parties.  For this reason, you should not communicate personal information (e.g., account information) via email.

How We Use Information

SCERS uses the information collected from visitors to its Site as described above and to provide members’ access to SCERS’ systems and services. No SCERS member information is used without such member’s consent.

Sharing of Information

SCERS does not sell, rent or otherwise commercially distribute any information collected. SCERS may share and distribute information collected from you with third party vendors that provide services to SCERS including without limitation the maintenance and operation of a pension administration system and a website management service.  Such information is shared and distributed solely for the purposes of provided services to SCERS and pursuant to confidentiality obligations.
