Election Notice

An election will be held for the Sacramento County Employees’ Retirement System (SCERS) Retirement Board for a Miscellaneous Representative (Steven Baird, Incumbent), a Safety Representative (Chris A. Pittman, Incumbent), and an Alternate Safety Representative (John Conneally, Incumbent).  The term of office for all Representatives will begin January 1, 2019 and end December 31, 2021.

Commitment

The SCERS Board is committed to the highest levels of fiduciary and ethical behavior. This includes not only understanding the legal requirements for prudent and reasonable fiduciary decision making but also a commitment to obtain the necessary education on investment and other matters addressed by the Retirement Board. The position will involve preparation for and attendance at monthly Retirement Board meetings and other special meetings as scheduled, as well as participation in educational programs and public retirement plan conferences.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible to vote or to be a candidate for the SCERS Board, an employee must be an active Miscellaneous member or Safety member of SCERS according to System records. Only Miscellaneous members may vote for the Miscellaneous Retirement Board Representative, and only Safety members may vote for the Safety Retirement Board Representative.

Nominations

Interested members may submit forms to establish their candidacy for the Retirement Board during the nomination period, which is August 6 through August 17, 2018. Nomination papers and candidate’s statement forms may be obtained and filed at Voter Registration and Elections, 7000 65th Street, Suite A, Sacramento, CA 95623, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Candidates should plan to pick up and file nomination papers in person. Each candidate is allowed a 200-word statement of qualifications, which will be included in each member’s voting material.

Voting

Ballots will be mailed to the home addresses of Miscellaneous and Safety members by September 21, 2018. The election will be held September 24 through October 5, 2018. Ballots may be returned via County inter-office mail, by U.S. mail, or in person to the Voter Registration and Elections Office. It is important that the ballot be signed, or it will not be counted. If hand delivered or sent inter-office mail (mail code 133-01A), signed ballots must be delivered to the Voter Registration and Elections Office by 5:00 p.m. on October 5, 2018.  If returning by U.S. mail service, signed ballots must be post marked by October 5, 2018 and received at the Elections Office by 5:00 p.m. October 9, 2018.
