Turnaround Time Improves for First Retirement Check

Article

SCERS has made significant improvements in delivering a better experience for members. Among these improvements is a steady decrease in wait times for retirees’ first checks, from 75 days earlier this summer to the current median time of less than 60 days.

Although still short of the target 45-day goal for the first post-retirement payment, SCERS is hard at work to narrow that wait time for members.  SCERS has made reaching this goal a top priority and was largely meeting service-level expectations through 2020.  A combination of factors – such as converting data to a new pension administration system – led to delays that are being remedied.

In the meantime, members are encouraged to plan their finances accordingly for the period between their retirement date and the possible amount of time it may take to receive the first payment.
